As we welcome the summer months, we also look forward to the leisurely activities that accompany them. Many of us plan vacations to sandy beaches, tranquil lakes or simply find joy in barbecuing by the pool with family. We use vacation as a time to back away from reality, let our guard down and take a rest from our everyday anxieties.
Now imagine a life where you could not escape reality. You are faced with different anxieties, like where to find your child their next meal or where to safely close your eyes at night.
These are the many realities that our guests at the St. Francis Inn face during the sweltering summer months. When they have no where to turn but the scorching pavement in Kensington, they find relief at the tables in our dining room. A seat under our roof with a cool cup of water, even for an hour, means just as much as any tranquil getaway.
They do not have a pool to relax by and many have no family to prepare meals with, but our humble volunteers and Friars comfort them, provide them with nourishment and always a smile. So in the midst of packing for your summer vacation, can you help the Franciscan Friars provide these families with the smallest moment of relief?
