Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love and a day to remember all the people who have touched the lives of others. But Franciscan Valentine’s Day calls for an even BIGGER HEART!
Although you and I may associate today with candy, flowers, dinners, and cards, many of the people served by The Franciscan Friars do not have much to celebrate on Valentine’s Day. It’s hard to celebrate anything without food, warm clothing, or a roof over your head. Many of our people have nothing at all, except what the Franciscan Friars provide for them, like in the picture you see above:
Fr. Michael Duffy (pictured above) celebrates Valentine’s Day with a guest at the St. Francis Inn with a simple meal- just like any other day. On February 15th, local flower shops and bakeries send leftover flowers and sweets to the Inn. So, Valentines Day for Fr. Michael’s guest is observed with a day-after-Valentine’s Day celebration we call: Franciscan Valentine’s Day!
Our Franciscan Valentine’s Day warms the hearts of many children, families and the elderly who often find this a time of hope and a day filled with even more love!
This Franciscan Valentine’s Day, our Inn and Food Centers are in desperate need of your help. PLEASE, we urgently need baby formula and diapers to clothe and care for little ones struggling through this cold winter. Your gift is critical in our ongoing efforts in fighting the effects of poverty on these tiny babies.
Be a part of our Franciscan Valentine’s Day and open your heart and your charity for the love of these little ones who need you and your care.
On behalf of the people we serve, thank you and Happy Franciscan Valentine’s Day.
Many Blessings,
Fr David Convertino, OFM
